Since I'm @the subject of Director Lee, I might as well include this in my blog as well. Last weekend while out with my buddy, Ivy, I shared with her of Lee Ang's story. We then talked about the films he made & Ivy particularly talked about Lust.Caution. She watched it online & talked about the explicit sex scenes & described them as disgusting. :O She asked me to watch it for myself & rate it.
I had been wanting to watch the full uncut version but seemed unable to, as most of it were edited. I was curious of the big hoo-ha & controversy of the sex scenes people were talking about. Well, now is a good time. I watched it online, the uncut version. & oh my, the sex scenes were extremely graphic & detailed, I must say! :O So far, this has been the most daring sex scene in a Chinese film.
Lee Ang explained that the sex scenes were the crucial part of the movie. From how I see it, he's right. The 1st sex scene was a horrid one, more of rape. Mr Yee (Tony Leung) was brutal & psychotic. Tony Leung needless to say, in another flawless portray of the role. His body language, his actions was so convincing real.
The 2nd & 3rd sex scenes, became more emotional charged.
Tang Wei, who portrayed the lead female spy, reminded me of one of my favorite actresses, Jacqueline Wu 吴倩莲. She has that ice-cold elegance in her like Jacqueline.
& surprisingly, one of my favourite artists, Wong Lee Hom who acted as Tang's university classmate & fellow resistance fighter, gave a surprising good performance as well, as compared to his past films especially his directorial debut "Love In Disguise" (恋爱通告).No wonder he sank into depression after this movie, as the whole movie was gloomy & heavy.
I reckon being the storyteller Lee Ang is, he pursues perfection, being to as true as the novel "Lust.Caution" "色戒" as possible.
