Finally watched this much-awaited movie taken from memoirs by author Elizabeth Gilbert's with my movie buddy, Annie! Splendid! Really an enlightening journey. I guess many of us like Liz, will
come to the point whereby we'll be searching what we really want in our lives. Liz had everything a woman been dream of having- a successful career, a husband & a house. However, like many others, she felt lost. & confused. Many a time, when we are pursuing the so-called the 'right' life to be , like Liz, in the midst of it all, we lose ourselves. We do for the sake of doing, to be like a 'normal' person with what 'normal' life should be. The standard & pressure of our society 社会的眼光和压力 take a toil of us. Any other thing done otherwise is considered abnormal. I think its very important to know why we do the things we do. Is it because we want to or because we have to? Are we living for others or are we living for ourselves? Balance is the key....to everything....thats what the movie had touched on also. :) & it really speaks to my heart.
Liz felt trapped in her marriage, she & her husband grew apart after married for years. He had always wanted a child but Liz wanted otherwise. So one fine night, for the 1st time in her life, Liz prayed to God & asked Him for directions & answers. After so of which, she finally had the courage to end the marriage. Her hubby hated the decision she made & called her a quitter. Liz couldn't forgive herself & she felt her life is crumbling apart - she didn't even find the joy of tasting good food anymore, therefore she decided to embark on a journey of self-discovery around the world. She found 1) the simple pleasure of nourishment in food in Italy - my favourite scene here was when Liz & her new fren went to buy 'big ladies pants' & she tried so hard to squeeze the jeans on...haha! Liz was so craving for Pizza & she was savouring the italian delicacy & there her fren was talking about being fat, put on weight & her button belly. Reminds me of most of us women! :O For myself, I always have a slogan -If u wanna eat, dun think too much. If u wanna think so much, dun eat! Hello!!! :O We just have to balance it with exercise & appropiate diet. I don't mean that we should literally gorge ourselves with food. But enjoying good food is also a vital way to enjoying life, isn't it! :D 2) touched on her Spirituality in India- Liz's room-mate had a tag "I am silence" on & apparently, she hadn't been speaking for the past 1month & the month's up, she talked like a motormouth to Liz but now its Liz's turn to put the tag on...hilarious! 3)& unexpectedly, inner peace & balance of true love in Bali - The medicine man, Ketut was so cute, funny, sincere & genuine. He gives very wise & sound advice to Liz like a father but yet maintain his humour. Total serenity as I watched Liz embarked on that self-discovery journey, shows that there's more than one way to really let yourself go & see the world! :)
Really therepeutic after watching the movie. I wouldn't mind watching again! Makes me really wanna read the book! :D
