I checked out this latest Jacky Cheung & Tang Wei's movie with my movie buddy recently. It was a feel good movie with simple storyline - LOVE. At the beginning of the movie, we see Jacky Cheung as a rather sloppy middle-aged man whose favourite hobby seemed to be sleeping. He could really sleep like a Koala. haha! He has a doting auntie who takes care of him lovingly. As the story moved on, we see both Jacky Cheung & Tang Wei's parents trying to matchmake them but in vain. Both of them @that point of time were attached @that point of time - Tang Wei waiting for her gangster boyfriend to be released from prison & Jacky Cheung's just divorced ex-girlfriend who came back to look for him (played by once my favourite TVB actress, Maggie Chueng Ho Yee) Soon after, as her friendship with Jacky slowly blossoming, her relationship with her boyfriend deterioated as she was fed-up & tired of him always trying to solve almost every problem using his fists & finally, they broke up. Initially, he couldn't really let go & looked Jacky up & you've guessed right, he bashed him up. He screamed @Jacky what was good about him & Jacky replied that he knows how to make her laugh. He was dumbfounded. Later on, he thought it over & decided to let Tang Wei. He sold the house & deposit the $$$ to her bank account. Now this is what I called True Love. If you truly, truly love someone, you would want her/him to be happy & would let him/her go instead. Simple truth but not all understand & can do so. On the other hand, Jacky find that he & Maggie Cheung are not suited for each other - Maggie always seemed so busy with her work that she neglected Jacky. I couldn't help but think that she was only making use of him. Jacky then told her that for the past few years, the reason he wasn't involved in another relationship was not because of her, but because he's concerned if he could be a good husband, a good lover. Now that's being so considerate. Many a time, many people just rushed into relationships & then rushed into marriage & in the end, perhaps rushed towards divorce as well? :O Being mentally prepared is very important, I find.
So to cut a long story short, Jacky after seeing his mum remarried, decided to go after Tang Wei. He found her in the usual eatery place. Story ends.
Refreshing pair- Jacky Cheung & Tang Wei. Jacky is a natural good actor. He doesn't over-act in a sense like erhem, for my personal view like Andy Lau. When u see Mr Lau act, you can tell that he's acting, sometimes trying too hard though. A good actor is one whom you can't tell that he's acting @all, he simply became that persona. As for Tang Wei, she has an aura of faint beauty 淡淡的美. Reminds me of Jacqueline Wu Qian Lian.
I give 3.5 stars out of 5 for Crossing Hennessy, for its simplicity & the ability for the viewers to relate to + of course, the thought-provoking messages & scenes. Art-based film with good & simple storyline. :)
